House design developed for the Cork County Council Rural Design Guide seminal publication, as a worked example at the end of the book, illustrating the main features and attributes associated with traditional countryside houses of the area identified in the guide, re-interrupted in a contemporary new house design.
The design for a new family house takes the form of a long narrow, single room depth, plan house, orientated on its site to allow extensive glazing to the south, with a more ‘solid’ north elevation, with fewer and smaller openings, maximizing on passive solar heat gains.
The simplicity of the design in showing what was possible was met with general very positive feedback.
