Rebuild of a former derelict landmark house on the Western approach to the Clonakilty along with a 2nd more contemporary house sharing the same entrance.
The original house had fallen into an advanced state of disrepair and also suffered intermittent flooding problems, which lead to a decision with the Town Architect that to demolish and reconstruct the house as was at an elevated level would be the best way forward. With extensions to the rear and the side the area of the house was effectively doubled.
The location of the site at the edge of the urban centre town suggested increasing the plot density by constructing a 2nd house, which would be contemporary in design but complementary to the sensitive context.
The finished project featured on national television, cited as a worthy example of mixing both new and old buildings, for Local Authorities and others to refer to elsewhere.
