MIKE SHANAHAN B.Arch MRIAI
Mike Shanahan, a graduate of the School of Architecture UCD, relocated to West Cork in 1992 having worked for several large commercial architectural practices in London on projects ranging in £3-10m value.
As principal of msaarchitects, Mike is responsible for the design to completion of Clogheen 40- bed Nursing Home and Sheltered Housing, BIM Training Facilities Castletownbere, Skibbereen Credit Union New Facilities, The Waterfront Hotel and Restaurant Baltimore, housing schemes and one-off houses and extensions.
In 2001 – 2003 Mike prepared illustrations for the Cork Rural Housing Design Guide: ‘Building a New House in the Countryside’ book, which he co-authored with Colin Buchanan & Partners and Cork County Council, and published to wide acclaim. Subsequently Mike presented a number of papers at national planning conferences and seminars organised by the RIAI and several Local Authorities on rural house and village design challenges.
Award winning projects include the BIM Fisheries Training Building (RIAI Award), and Skibbereen Credit Union (2010 OPUS Awards). Mike was a juror for the RIAI Triennial Gold Medal Award 1998-2000.
In 2011 Mike was appointed to the Honorary Advisory Board in traditional architecture (HABitat) in Hungry and invited to attend their conference on Vernacular Architecture in Hungary
in 2012.
